Automation enables larger production volumes and produces medicines of higher microbiological quality.
The aim was to maximise the benefits achieved with centralisation and offer ready-to-use products to hospital units whenever possible.
"The compounding system is an innovation that enables the standardized mass compounding of intravenous antibiotic doses. Our aim is that it will reduce the workload and improve patient safety."
Reconstituting intravenous antibiotics in a centralised manner in controlled pharmacy conditions guarantees an uninterrupted pharmaceutical service process. Each dose is barcoded, which means that every single dose can be traced if necessary (for example, in case of a product error). The system also provided precise information on what batch was administered to which patient and how each batch was prepared for administration.
The compounding system is designed for the mass production of ready-to-administer antibiotics according to the specifications of health care and pharmacy professionals.
Hundreds of thousands of intravenous antibiotic doses are being reconstituted manually.
